Horizon Pools are the only fibreglass swimming pool company that are presently manufacturing custom shaped fibreglass swimming pools in South Africa. We have developed this area of our business over the past two years. We saw a gap in the market where potential clients saw the benefits of a fibreglass swimming pool but were put off by the restriction of shapes that did not suit their taste or site requirements. The custom shaped pools are made in one piece in our factory and can be made to any shape or size up to 11.5m x 4.5m (anything bigger cannot be transported by road.) The depth cannot be deeper than 1.8m. The “once off” mould adds approx 5%-8% to the basic swimming pool cost but the overall price is still cheaper than that of a gunnite custom shaped option. Many gunnite swimming pool companies are fibreglass lining their pools due to the preferred demand from the market for that finish due to its benefits. This results in a gunnite fibreglass lined swimming pool being the more expensive option. We have manufactured many custom shaped fibreglass swimming pools such as shapes to fit specific areas where walls are not parallel, many simple shapes that our fibreglass swimming pool range does no have, lap pools of many varying lengths and above ground pools.

Our custom shaped fibreglass swimming pools are a regular part of our business these days with one in production at any one time. They are being accepted with great approval by our clients who are getting exactly what they want.

Another aspect of our fibreglass swimming pools that we have developed over the past year is the mosaic area after some of our testimonials regarding the fact that fibreglass swimming pool mosaic look artificial. Traditionally,the fibreglass mosaic is a screen printed pattern on a panel of fibreglass tissue. This is placed on the mould and impregnated with resin. We have developed a method of putting a built in recess around the top of all of our fibreglass swimming pool shapes where a real ceramic mosaic can be applied with epoxy and epoxy grout once the pool comes off the mould. The mosaic is recessed and is therefore flush with the side of the fibreglass swimming pool. The mosaic therefore does not stand proud of the pool wall so there is no ridge which looks ugly and gathers algae. This makes the pool look absolutely stunning and “real”, just like a gunnite pool once complete. We have installed many fibreglass swimming pools lately using this brand new technique developed by us and the clients are ecstatic with the results.
